Merry Christmas from New Mexico

Tonight as I drove back home through New Mexico from Colorado (an early Christmas celebration this week with my brother and his family), I was delighted by the hundreds of luminarias lining the streets of the many little New Mexican towns I drove through.

This New Mexico Christmas Eve tradition began hundreds of years ago with the belief that these pathways of light would help guide the spirit of the Christ child to one's home or church.


I didn't stop tonight to photograph each town's display, but did happen to capture Socorro's wonderful luminarias a few weeks ago when they were first lit up.

May the light and spirit of Christmas be guided to your home on this special night (and every night).

    We drove into Alamogordo tonight as were amazed at the sacks lining the streets! Did not get to see them lit. Even the RV park had them.

    Glad to see your lovely photos of Socorro. I was shocked at the weather news this evening about New Mexico. Not sure exactly where you are, but, if you're in the path of the blizzard, batten down the hatches....or something!
