Mexican Revolution Day

Who doesn't love a parade?  Especially, if your child is one of the 1,000+ participants?  That might just be the secret to San Miguel de Allende's well-attended annual Mexican Revolution Day parade.  Invite every kid from every nearby school to participate, and they'll be sure to bring their parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, and neighbors to come watch!  When this many start gathering along the streets of centro, all the gringo tourists in town will surely come watch the parade too....and that's exactly what Hans, Ursula, and I did!

Revolution Day is officially the third Monday in November, making it a 3-day holiday weekend.  Lots of celebrating for all ages!

The parade started out with the youngest kids and they were certainly the cutest, especially the little boys with their penciled moustaches!

Next came the grade-school kids with their colorful outfits--

Some school classes focused on dressing as historical figures (fake moustaches and all!)--

While other classes performed some pretty impressive gymnastic routines!

After watching the parade from one street for a while, we walked a few blocks closer to the Jardin to see the parade from new vantage points.  Lots of pageantry, color, and music on fine display--

While most U.S. and Canadian winter snowbirds don't come to Mexico until after Christmas, I am so grateful that we came early this year (in November) for both Dia de los Muertos and Revolution Day.  No better way to experience Mexican culture than these two events!
